About

Baltimoreans for Educational Equity (BEE) is a group of teachers, former teachers, parents, students, and allies who work collectively for educational equity at the district, city, and state level.

We identity leaders who engage their networks in a process of listening, building relationships, and identifying issues that are barriers to achieving educational equity. From the collection of stories, we build teams of individuals to identify a shared and actionable issue and move in collective action to change the education space in Baltimore.

Members of BEE recognize the major inequities that affect Baltimore’s students. As we organize and act, we are inclusive of all Baltimoreans who want to build power to effect change.

Our Current Work

For the 2018-19 school year, we seek to collectively:

  • Engage in the Kirwan Commission’s work assessing the current education funding formula in order to make recommendations for policy initiatives to increase the adequacy and equity of state funding for public education

  • Work in coalition with The Intersection to canvass Baltimore neighborhoods advocating for the Lock Box ballot issue.

  • Develop a voter guide to share the education stance of each candidate in the gubernatorial election.
